Using the UV lining process instead of other cured-in-place liners are due to a number of reasons. Firstly, it is less costly and faster to install, employing the use of ultra-violet light compared to the typical use of hot water, reducing the potential environmental impact from disposal of the contaminated waste water once the lining process has been completed.
The liner is placed into the pipe and inflated until it covers the damaged pipe, once this has been done, an ultra-violet light train is pushed through the pipework at a set speed, curing the lining material as it passes. Once the process has finished, the lining ends are cut off and trimmed to the correct size; any laterals that has been lined over will be re-opened with a robotic cutter. The pressure is maintained until the patch has cured, the bladder is then deflated and withdrawn, and the job is done. Patch liners are becoming increasingly popular for dealing with isolated defects, offering a cost-effective alternative to a full liner or other repair.
